The local business forum of Komani has thanked the Border-Kei Chamber of Business, Twizza, Crickley Dairy, Farmhouse Frozen Foods, King Fisher Industries and Shell Ultra City for facilitating a legal process to interdict Eskom and, in turn, the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, from cutting off the power to the town from November 20.
Forum spokespeople Jacques van Zyl and Nico de Jager said it was understood that as a consequence of the legal process, Eskom and EMLM had reached an agreement on the payment plan. “Eskom has agreed that they will not disrupt the power supply to the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality.”
They said the High Court application was brought by local business “as an act of desperation to force the local authority to normalise its financial commitments to Eskom on a monthly basis.”
Appreciation was extended to the businesses and attorneys Wheeldon Rushmere and Cole who brought the High Court application.
