Mlokothi said it had come to the attention of the local authority  “that there are plans by some members of communities or are in the process of attempting to unlawfully and illegally occupy the land, in and around the jurisdiction of the municipality. Recently there has been a sudden upsurge of illegal occupations and/or reports of unlawful invasions of land which are measures that seek to frustrate efforts towards effective and efficient planning by the municipality to address the needs of communities.

“This serves as a notice that all those that are planning or are in the process of making attempts to unlawfully and illegally occupy land will be acting against the law and such conduct will not be tolerated whatsoever and steps will be taken to ensure prompt law enforcement. Members of communities are advised not to associate themselves or participate in such groupings and to rather report any such plans to the authorities and not be part of plans to break the law.”

He called upon “everyone to respect the constitutional and legislative provisions so that people can live in harmony and in a cohesive manner.”
