A suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing of 33-year-old foreign national shop owner, Mulugeta Gebremariam Ashebo.
Last week The Rep reported that Ashebo was found dead with three bullet wounds in his body at the entrance of his business premises in Khayelitsha, Mlungisi around 11pm on February 8.
Police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni indicated that an operation by detectives together with the flying squad from King William’s Town led to the arrest. “Members followed information of a businessman who was robbed and killed in his spaza shop. The house of the suspect was searched and a number of cellphones were recovered.”
Mdleleni said the suspect was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property, murder and robbery and is expected to appear in the Queenstown Magistrate’s Court soon .
In a statement issued by Mdleleni, cluster commander major general Funeka Siganga applauded the members for their focus and good work and encouraged them to continue fighting crime.
