Tru FM Ikasi Challenge winner Linda Gobodo of Ezibeleni hosted the Youth Day Tournament where the radio station’s staff went head-to-head with Super Strikers’ netball and soccer clubs of which Gobodo is a chairman.
The fun-filled event started with a friendly soccer game where the Tru FM staff played against the Strikers first team and lost 0-5.
The game was followed by a netball match, and again the radio station staff were beaten by the competitive Strikers netball team which showed no mercy with a 9-0 win.
Tru FM acting marketing manager Busi Mbatsha said the open radio competition which Gobodo won was to commemorate Youth Day, which was important for the station whose main listeners were young people.
Mbatsha said the competition required participants to SMS the name of the area where they would like Tru Fm to visit them on June 16.
“The competition entailed participants to answer general knowledge questions. The top four winners moved to the final round where we did a lucky draw and Gobodo was selected.”
Mbatsha said she was not surprised that both their teams lost because they were not really a team that practised on a regular basis like their opponents.
Gobodo said he was happy to have won the competition which brought some of the his favourite disc jockeys and presenters to his home town.
“I am an avid Tru FM listener and a huge fan of social media. When I saw the competition on Facebook I decided to enter and we are here today celebrating this day in a fun way.”
The players received medals and backpacks for their participation in the tournament.
