The Department of Education MEC, Fundile Gade officially opened the provincial Annual Youth Conference at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth today.
The department’s spokesperson Malibongwe Mtima said the conference was meant to address the social issues that impede pupils from reaching and completing their matric which included pupil enrolment, retention, performance and progression.
“The Care and support for teaching and learning framework which was developed by the department and focuses on rehabilitating pupils, whose lives have been adversely affected by risky behaviours like teenage pregnancy, drug and substance abuse and other social ills” Mtima said.
