The Chris Hani branch of the South African Football Association held district trials at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex on Saturday.
22 players from various soccer teams were selected to be part of a team that will represent the district at the provincial trials to be held in Joe Gqabi on July 13. The provincial trials are in preparation for the SAB U21 national championships. The players braved the cold weather on Tuesday and began their first training session at the Dumpy Adams Complex.
Chris Hani head technician, Valerie Adolph, said they would have another training session on Thursday, adding that players showed exceptional performing skills. “They have played in the SAB league before, the performance is quite high. With these training sessions, we want the players to understand and get to know one another to get the communication going because they come from different teams. I believe they are ready because they all come from top teams.”
Eight teams were represented with players from Young Minds FC dominating the squad. Other teams represented include Seven Stars, Holy Kings, Valgas, AFC Komani Stars, Lucky Star FC, AmaKhuze Royals FC and FC Bongweni.
Regional technical officer coach Archie Dyeli said although they had expected a larger number of players during the weekend’s trials, those that did show up gave them hope.
