Komani police officers showed their caring side when they recently paid a visit to the family of a late 62-year-old man in Glen Grey.
Led by cluster commander, Major General Funeka Siganga, and the two SAPS internal structures – Women’s Network and Men for Change – the team donated groceries and conducted a short prayer programme to comfort the grieving Ngqono family members.
The elderly father was brutally murdered by five juveniles in the Qoqodala Administrative Area earlier this month.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, the father had heard his young neighbour screaming and when he went outside to investigate, he found five young men raping the young girl who was alone at her home.
The young boys allegedly turned on the father and attacked and stabbed him to death.
Police opened rape and murder cases. All five men are currently behind bars.
Siganga condemned the killing of old people by the youth and implored the community to work hand in hand with the structures within the police so that they may fight crime together.
