Police are investigating cases of theft by false pretences after it emerged that a number of residents in Komani were being targeted by thieves.

According to a police statement, some residents have been duped into buying clothes and building material at lower prices by people pretending to be working for certain shops.

The residents have ended up losing their money and become victims of crime.

Police appeal to the community to be aware of these criminals and not to be convinced by them. When they go shopping they must make sure that they buy their stock from the relevant places,” said police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, in the statement.

She added: “People must not accept assistance from strangers at the bank and ATMs. They must request assistance from security officers to avoid fraud.”
