Teams do well to keep leads

The regional league soccer season is almost at the halfway mark and two namesakes are competing to make the playoffs on either side of the Chris Hani streams.

Dordrecht Seven Stars consolidated top spot in stream A when they drew with top competitors FC Bongweni 3-3.

The Dordrecht team has shown a rich vein of form, now being on a six-match unbeaten streak. They have 19 points at the top of the league, three points ahead of Mountain Shadow FC at number two. They have played eight games, one more than their opponents.

On the other hand, Komani-based Seven Stars had a thumping 9-1 victory against Ilinge side Two for Joy FC. The two sides played on Sunday at the Dumpy Adams complex.

The race for the playoffs is, however tight, in this stream with only two points separating the Stars from third-placed Molteno Cosmos. Stars have 20 points, MK Academy 19 and Molteno Cosmos 18. All the teams have played nine games.

The race is even tighter with Valgas FC having finally seeming found form this season. They beat Komani Conquerors 6-3 on Saturday. They are fifth on the table, tied with fourth-placed Young Minds on 16 points, four behind Seven Stars.
