Soul Melodies, a music group from Ezibeleni, who have been selected to participate in the Talent Africa Nationals, stand a chance of representing the country at the Talent America competition in New York City.
The a capella group of five young men who delivered an “impressive” performance in the Eastern Cape regional rounds will soon perform at the Opera House in Port Elizabeth
Manager Khanyiso Twala said they auditioned for the competition in February and were selected as the best performing group. “We came first in the gospel and pop category in the regional rounds and were adjudged best performers.” This is an opportunity for the local musicians to be part of a team that will jet off to New York City.
The 2017 Showville competition winners and Old Mutual Amazing Voices contenders will also partake in the South African Championship of Performing Arts (Sacopa) in Randburg on March 29. and will represent the province in the national competition.
“In the Sacopa competition we are required to pay a certain amount for registration and also for travelling costs. We are striving to raise enough money to participate in the competition. We would love to be financially assisted because these trips require money. We would, however, appreciate any kind of support.”
Twala said the plan was to record a single and an album in June. “We try to implement various fund-raising methods, among others performing around town. We feel this is the time and the group is now vocally mature enough to chase the bigger dream. We appeal to anyone who can assist us in making this dream a reality by assisting with uniform, funds for recording and promoting our music and funds to help us reach the top in these competitions and become a household name.”
The talented group has 157 original song compositions and two singles which are currently fan favourites, “Indlovukazi” and “Golide”.
