THE Eastern Cape Health Department has indicated that a
The Rep received information from a source who declined to be named on Friday, indicating that a burst pipe in front of Ward 15K at the hospital had been leaking for the past three weeks.
The source indicated that the matter had earlier been reported to management.
He said the pipes at the hospital were old, leading to bursts which was of concern particularly in light of the current water shortage in the area.
Health Department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said, “The maintenance budget of the department has been centralised. The call to fix the burst pipe was logged on January 16 with the reference number ECDOH 1880.The assessment was done by a service provider on the 17th. We are waiting for repairs to be done.”
Kupelo said he could not comment on the alleged ageing infrastructure, however, as it was the area of responsibility of the Chris Hani District Municipality.
