THE Congress of the People has accused the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) of being hypocrites for being quiet about the alleged sexual scandal involving Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe.
The Sunday Times reported over the weekend how Radebe had allegedly requested nude pictures from a 29-year-old Siyasanga Mbambani who works at the Union Buildings. Cope national spokesman Dennis Bloem said the silence showed the true colours of the league. “As soon as a high profile personality from the ANC is implicated in an unsavoury sexual scandal, the ANC Women’s League goes underground. Its hypocrisy is revealing. The scandalous exposure by the Sunday Times on Minister Radebe needs at least condemnation from the ANC Women’s League and society as a whole, and this bunch of opportunists are quiet,” Bloem said.
He asked if the ANCWL had decided the alleged humiliation of Mbambani was not serious and that they should rather defend Radebe’s political career and leave the woman on her own. “Cope wants to applaud Mrs Winnie (Madikizela) Mandela who has come forward and expressed disappointment on Radebe’s scandalous actions.” He said for a while, the league tried to make people believe it was at the forefront of the battle to protect women’s rights.
