THE Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) will be handing over newly-built houses in six local municipalities within its areas of jurisdiction as part of a tribute to the late President Nelson Mandela tomorrow.
July 18 marks the 67 Minutes for Madiba campaign on the late President’s birthday.
According to a statement from CHDM today, Executive Mayor Kholiswa Vimbayo is set to lead a delegation of the mayoral committee to sites where the construction of these houses has been completed. The houses will give shelter to five child headed families and three elderly citizen above the ages of 85. All the houses, built by emerging contractors from the district, are furnished to be ready for occupation.
The afternoon will be marked by sod turning activities and the laying of first bricks for homes at sites in Tarkastad, Sada and Ilinge which falls within the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality area.
