Unrest in Ezibeleni, Cacadu and Dordrecht

Date:

TYRES were burning from early this morning in Ezibeleni.

While exact details are not known as yet, the unrest is believed to be related to calls for the removal of two Ezibeleni ward councillors. Further details in The Rep tomorrow.

In nearby Cacadu (formerly Lady Frere) and Dordrecht, a shutdown of both towns have been planned by groups of residents from today.

This follows a recent visit by the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department and the ANC and the start of investigations by both bodies into claims of corruption and nepotism within the Emalahleni Municipality.

The shutdown – the second in two months – is believed to have been sparked by a lack of feedback on the grievances.
