One of the four people busted with drugs at the OR Tambo International Airport over the last few days had concealed the substance in boxes of Kellogg’s Cornflakes cereal‚ police said on Wednesday.
The woman was intercepted at the check-in counters‚ said Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale.
“The suspect was stopped before she could check in her luggage‚ which was found to contain boxes of cereal. Sachets containing white powder suspected to be crystal meth were found concealed in the boxes‚” said Mogale.
Another suspected drug trafficker was caught after he decided to dump his stash and make a run for it when he noticed airport security watching him.

“In this instance they kept a close eye on one of the passengers‚ a man‚ who upon realising he was under surveillance ran off to the basement where he had parked his vehicle‚” said Mogale.
“The team pursued him and discovered suspected drugs weighing about 6.62kg with an estimated street value of R1.98 million.”
In two other incidents‚ drugs worth over R1.7 million were seized.
One man was caught with 3.4kg of cocaine with an estimated value of R940‚000. The drugs had been hidden in his luggage.
Another suspect was arrested as he arrived at the airport.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that his name did not appear on the passenger list. He was searched and his luggage was found to be containing 17kg of ephedrine with an estimated street value of R690‚000‚” said Mogale.
Mogale said all the suspects had since appeared in court.
