Pep Guardiola’s mother succumbs to coronavirus

The mother of Manchester City Football Club manager, Pep Guardiola, has died after contracting the coronavirus.

Dolors Sala Carrió, 82, lived in Spain where over 13 000 people have died from the pandemic, a death toll that is currently second only to Italy.

In a statement published by Manchester City FC, the club said: “The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting Corona Virus.

“Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends,” read the statement.

Last month, the 48-year-old manager donated one million Euros to his native country, Spain, to help the fight against the novel virus.
