Hoërskool Hangklip Netball v Cradock: U14A won 9-8. Player of the match: Remothabetse Lephema; U14B lost 1-18 (Abigail Combrink), U16A won 19-4 (Chanaaz Prince), U16B won 15-9 (Buhle Mkaza), U16C won 21-2 (Tiffany Scott and Unam Matwa), U16D lost against Maria Louw second team (Lisakanya Hesewu), third team lost 14-16 (Megan Lee), second team won 17-15 (Hesca Annandale), first team won 35-16 (Jody Vorster). The Hangklip first rugby team participated in the Hoërskool Punt sport festival in Mossel Bay and was unbeaten with results of 44-7 against Melkbosstrand and 10-5 against Hoërskool Punt. Hockey vs Cradock: The third team lost 1-0 with players of the match: Shenique Plaatjies and Winrae van Heerden. The second team lost 1-0 with players of the match Oko Deniso and Honey Peltenburg. The first team lost 2-0 with player of the match Hanneri Janse van Rensburg. On Saturday, Hangklip welcomed Cradock for the first derby day of the year. The rugby teams all played hard rugby and achieved some great success. U14A drew 15-15, U15A won 19-10, U16A won 41-10, 3rds beat Maria Louw 17-7, 2nd lost 7-8, 1st won 32-3. GHS Chris Hani mega districts athletics meeting in Cradock: first places, U17: Shannon Barraud high jump (1,38m), Jo Cobbold javelin (29,26m), U15 Gugulethu Maqina shot put (8,88m), Khululiwe Vilakazi 300m (59.14s), U14 Sibulele Ngculu 300m (53.97s), 90m (16.94s); second places: U19: Ncumisa Makha 200m (28,75s), long jump (4,24m), U17: Caylin Genade 100m (12.19s), 200m 26,42s), U14: Buqaquwuli Booi 300m (1:00.02s), Elske du Toit discus (21,08m); third places: U19 Sarah Gower long jump (4,20m), U17: Carmen McEwan discus (21,65m), U14 Buqaquwuli Booi 90m (18,48s); fourth places: U17 Tyler Schloesser 1500 (6:07s). After the second round of Border squash trials the rankings were: U19: 1st Inge Coetzee, 2nd Mikayla Boy, U16 1st Teagan Roux, 3rd Monique da Cruz, 5th Logan Raasch, 6th Nicci Pohlmann, 7th Khilona Vallabh, 11th Bianca Pretorius, U14 1st Kirsten Lyons, 5th Zintle Yaka. Teagan Roux (U16), Monique da Cruz (U16) and Kirsten Lyons (U14) participated in the Johannesburg closed squash tournament. This tournament, along with the Bloemfontein Open and the SA Squash IPT enable the girls to qualify for the SA squash team. Teagan Roux second in U16 age group, Monique da Cruz 8th in U16, Kirsten Lyons 5th in U14. Netball clinic: Elisma Roodt, teacher in charge of netball, organised an U16 netball clinic at GHS. The clinic was presented by Ciska Kirchoff and Maryke Kirchoff. Ciska coached the Brutal Fruit Eastern Cape Aloes, Border and Grens High School first team and Maryke played for Border and the Brutal Fruit Eastern Cape Aloes. Girls’ High School, Dordrecht High School and Hangklip took part and the skills taught were how to prepare before a game, warm-ups, ball skills, game structures and specialist skills for shooters. Hockey: The first team played in the Greg Beling Tournament in East London and obtained the following results: v Victoria Park drew 0-0, v Kingswood drew 0-0, vs Union High lost 1-5, v Alexander Road drew 1-1. Hockey vs Kingswood: 2nd drew 1-1,U16B lost 0-1, 3rd lost 0-2, U16 C lost 0-2, U16A drew 1-1, U14A won 2-1. Tennis: GHS entered the Country Districts trials and the following results were obtained, U19: 1 Aimee Pohlmann, 3 Mikayla Boy, 4 Hayley Lucas, 8 Lauren Meyer, 10 Jo Cobbold. U16 1 Megan van Oosten, 2 Teagan Roux, 3 Monique da Cruz. U14: 2 Kirsten Lyons, 5 Zintle Yaka, 7 Christine Nel, 9 Erin Barraud. The U14A team, with their coach Mrs S McDonals, competed in the Rob Taylor hockey tournament in East London. Results were: vs Merrifield won 3-1, vs Stirling drew 1-1, vs Pearson lost 0-2, vs Kingswood lost 2-3, vs Woodridge lost 0-4. Monique da Cruz competed at the SA Level 1 swimming champs during the March holidays. She competed in six events and made the finals for three with the results 50m breaststroke 2nd (silver medal), 100m breast 3rd (bronze), 200m breast 7th. THe U16A hockey team participated in the Eunice hockey festival in Bloemfontein. v Roedean drew 2-2, v Clarendon drew 1-1, vs Durban Girls’ High lost 5-0, v Eunice lost 2-0, vs Witteberg lost 3-1, v Pretoria Girls’ High lost 2-, v St Andrews lost 2-1, v Jim Fouche lost 2-1. Queen’s College Rugby vs Marlow High School: U14A lost 14-21, U14B won 76-0, U15A drew 20-20, U15B won 40-21, U16A lost 0-17, U16B won 22-18, 4th won 32-3, 3rd lost 29-31, 2nd won 26-19, 1st won 25-15. Queen’s College Junior U13 Andre Vos rugby festival: QCJ v Stirling won 5-0, v Selborne won 10-0, v Dale lost 0-10, v Hudson Park won 5-0. U11 Clarendon rugby festival: QCJ v Westering won 36-0, v Herbert Hurd won 43-0, v Summerwood won 22-0, v Clarendon won 34-5.
