Unit head captain Siyabulela Xungu, addressing the media on Tuesday, said the award was as a result of the teamwork, commitment and dedication of the members of the unit.

He said they had ensured suppliers were paid within 30 days of submitting invoices.

“This award proves we can work well as a team. We did not wait for inspection and then rush our work and we will continue to work hard and improve where we must.”

Police spokeswoman captain Namhla Mdleleni said despite the negative perceptions some people had about police, the award showed police members could work well with people.

“This is a clear sign that the police members are committed to their work, that they understand and apply the Batho Pele principles. This unit is able to take first place next year and we have witnessed that teamwork contributes greatly towards achieving excellence.”
