COPE has called for voter unity to oust President Jacob Zuma.
In a statement by Cope spokesman Dennis Bloem today, the party said it had warned South Africa of the dangers of a Zuma presidency in 2008.
They said Zuma had since feasted on South Africa’s riches with ‘gay abandon’ and had ‘thrown little morsels’ to the poor.
In addition, the party said, he had surrounded himself with people like Bathabile Dlamini, Lynne Brown and Malusi Gigaba who had ‘ clouds hanging over their heads.’
In the meantime, Cope said, South Africans were watching the corruption unfolding ‘as though they were watching a soapie.’
Lawlessness were escalating as the country slid into a technical recession.
He said many South Africans had become cynical about voting, but said the fault lay squarely with the voters.
‘If they acted collectively on common purpose, the situation would be very different.’
He urged voters to form voter groups, collectives and coalitions, saying this was the only way to fulfill the dream of the Freedom Charter that ‘the people shall govern.’
By standing alone, all would be lost but by standing together, the country could be saved.
