Matthew Goniwe National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) regional members had a joint meeting with provincial members at the Dugmore Hall in Komani last Tuesday.

The Matthew Goniwe acting regional secretary Mvuyisi Siko said the union was preparing for its upcoming 11th congress which will take place from June 26 to 29. The event will take place at Birchwood Hotel, at Boksburg, in Gauteng. This year’s theme will be to “intensify militant, class conscious organisation and advance a radical working class movement towards socialism.”
Siko said, “We will be looking at reviewing the work undertaken since the 2014 at the 10th National Congress. We will deal with the direction that COSATU must take in organising workers across the country and the world.”
One of the congress’ mandate he said was to push COSATU to join the World Federation of Trade Unions which is headed by President Jacob Zuma.
A suitable leader will also be elected to undertake the task set by the theme of the congress, Siko said.
