Your house is unsafe.
According to Stats SA’s Victims of Crime Survey for 2016/17 about 1.46 million crimes were committed at 1.15 million households or about 7.2% of national households.
In these households the most common crime was house break-ins (52.9%)‚ followed by livestock theft (11.3%) and home robbery (10%).
A house break-in is when the residents are not at home or there is no contact between the residents and the criminals.

Statistician-General Dr Pali Lehohla released the latest survey at the Stats SA offices in Pretoria in Thursday.
About 30‚000 households with individuals aged 16 years or older were included in the survey to extrapolate a national perception of crime.
This was a gradual decline in the percentage of homes targeted from 10.2% in 2013/14 and 8.5% in 2015/16.
The most common items that were stolen during house break-ins were electronic equipment (54.4%)‚ cellphones (29.1%) and personal items such as jewellery (25.3%).
The number of households where vehicles were stolen decreased from 1.26% in 2015/16 to 0.95% or 45‚595 households in 2016/17.
More than half of the homes took measures to secure their home (51%) and almost half to protect their vehicles (41%).
Confidence in the police continued to deteriorate with 57.3% in 2016/17 compared to 58.8% in 2015/16.
