Graduates appeal for jobs

Date:

DESPERATE TIMES: Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University graduate Luzuko Zazi was among Komani graduates who stood at the busy intersection of Cathcart and Robinson roads on Tuesday as part of the national #HireAgraduate movement.

A GROUP of Komani graduates from various universities took to Cathcart Road on Wednesday morning with placards, begging for jobs at the traffic lights in the CBD.Organiser Zandile Nocanda said #HireAGraduate was a campaign driven by unemployed graduates in the province. “This initiative aims to create a platform to voice our thoughts and grievances as we feel the pain of not working to provide for our families,” Nocanda said.

Facebook and Whatsapp groups had also been set up to spread awareness and garner support. University of Fort Hare graduate Mzimkhulu Dwyili has been unemployed for four years. “I am the only graduate at home and I thought I would be able to change things around for my family, but I find myself having to depend on casual jobs.”

A mass gathering for all Eastern Cape unemployed graduates is planned to take place in Bhisho at a date yet to be announced.
