Flash Back Friday #Komani

Take a walk down memory lane with stories that made news headlines in January 1995.

-1995 was seen as the year of major developments in Komani with the announcement of the R6 Million Bert Strauss Shopping complex in Cathcart Road.

-The future of Komani prison was once uncertain because of it’s viability. There was a possibility that the prison would be closed. The report states that it was underutilised with a capacity of 155 prisoners and only 47 prisoners in lock-up.

-It was reported that Komani residents were amongst the most sport minded people in the country and that all sporting codes were generally well supported with all race groups rubbing shoulders at sporting venues. The facilities in the town in nearly all codes compared more favourably with towns of similar size and some larger cities as well.
